When you procure the right equipment for your site, you maximize your new revenue stream and protect your capital.

Natural gas Bitcoin mining requires purpose-built solutions, not standard grid mining gear. Off-grid equipment must handle remote oilfield conditions, manage gas flow complexities, and withstand harsh weather that on-grid operations never encounter. Choosing equipment matched to your specific site data ensures you're investing in hardware built for your operation.

Here's why you should procure the mining equipment next:

You now know exactly what size equipment to buy. Your gas volume from Step 2 tells you what size generators to deploy.

Your financial model tells you what you can afford. ROI calculations from Step 2 show your expected payback, letting you make informed purchasing decisions on generators, containers, and miners.

Combo units designed for gas mining can streamline your setup. Now that you know your gas volume and ROI, you can potentially source integrated systems where half the container is a generator and half is the mining operation (one skidded unit), which simplifies installation in Step 4.

A Note From Paul: In 2021, I got burned buying bad equipment while setting up Verde Mining's first Bitcoin mining pilot program. Two colleagues and I each invested $25,000 to test mining with flare gas. We ordered 40 used miners from Kazakhstan, picked them up at the Alcoa plant in Austin, and hauled them back to Midland. We cracked open boxes and plugged in each unit. Out of those 40 miners, we discovered 8 of them were 100% defective and unusable. While we made that small pilot a success and proved the concept worked, we learned an important lesson about procuring proper equipment right from the start.

When your generators, containers, and miners are properly sized to your gas volume and site conditions, you get the most revenue out of every mcf. The wrong equipment leaves profit on the table, either running below capacity or breaking down under the stress of remote gas operations.

You can choose to buy or rent based on your situation. Some operators buy their own equipment while others rent to avoid the hassle of ownership, giving you flexibility based on your operation's needs.

You can choose the right cooling system for your climate. You can select air-cooled, water-cooled, or immersion-cooled mining rigs, with most operations using air-cooled systems.

You need to make 3 critical procurement decisions to set up your natural gas Bitcoin mining operation.

Each decision builds on your site assessment data from Step 2. Your gas volume and composition determines your power generation capacity, and that determines your mining machine count and model types. Regardless of your operation's size, you'll also need internet connectivity to keep your miners online.

Getting these decisions right creates reliable infrastructure that maximizes your revenue 24/7. The wrong choices lead to underperforming equipment that reduces your daily profit and ROI.

1. Select power generation equipment and container housing matched to your gas volume. Equipment is available for a wide range of deployments, from 90 kW generators (~30 mcf/d) to 1 MW generators (~300 mcf/d) or larger. Choose proven standalone generators or consider turnkey combo units from industry-specific providers that include both power generation and container housing for your mining equipment.

2. Procure mining machines from specialized ASIC suppliers. Work with experienced suppliers to source current-generation miners that deliver maximum hashrate and can withstand remote site conditions.

3. Secure internet connectivity for remote monitoring and mining pool configuration. Install Starlink for reliable connectivity in remote locations (recommended for most Permian Basin sites), or use LTE from a cell provider if Starlink isn't available. You need internet to communicate with the Bitcoin network or your mining pool and monitor your mining rigs.
